Lost and Found

When the donkeys got lost, Saul set out with his servant,

I guess he was chosen for being observant?

The servant he followed wherever Saul lead,

They didn’t find donkeys but Samuel instead.

When the donkey’s got lost, they searched high and low,

Hoping that Samuel would be “in the know,”

They found more than they bargained for while they were looking,

Apparently Samuel had their dinner cooking!

When the donkeys got lost, they found something more,

Something that God had planned long before:

It wasn’t the donkeys God called them to see,

Saul was looking for donkeys but found destiny!

When the donkey’s got lost, Saul had to go seeking,

But God had designed it so that he would be king.

He didn’t find donkeys but anointing instead,

Samuel poured olive oil all over Saul’s head.

When the donkeys got lost, Saul scoured the land,

Next he bumped into a prophetic band,

Just as Samuel had said, they were singing and playing,

Saul found himself with them, prophesying and praying.

When the donkeys got lost, Saul just couldn’t stop it,

The people cried out “Is now Saul also a prophet?”

He never expected that God would speak to him,

And now here he found himself, God speaking through him!

When the donkeys got lost, Saul found God’s voice,

Surprised to discover that he was God’s choice,

What began as a donkey hunt at the start,

Ended up changing Saul’s life and his heart.

Dear friends it may not be donkeys you’ve lost,

But searching for something can come at a cost,

It might be a sock or the truth that you seek,

But God has a plan for you too that’s unique.

Jesus told stories about looking for lost ones,

Not donkeys but a sheep and a coin and a son,

God often turns our whole story around,

We start out searching and end up being found.

So next time you feel like perhaps you’re misplaced,

Remember the donkeys and all that Saul faced,

Looking for donkeys was just an excuse,

One of the many things God likes to use.

Once you start searching who knows what you’ll find?

It could be that God has something else in His mind,

You may even believe it’s the searching you do,

When actually He came to seek and save you!

You can read more about Saul and the lost donkeys in 1 Samuel chapters 9 and 10.  Have a great week.  Much love Rach x
